Twenty-Six Unanswered Questions After Avengers: Endgame

(This post contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame)

Avengers: Endgame was a satisfactory conclusion to the eleven-year arc of the MCU, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some questions from previous films that were left unanswered, as well as some new ones that hopefully future projects will address. Here are some of these questions that occurred to me after watching Endgame. (Please keep in mind, as of posting, I have only seen the film once.)

What Happened to the Sokovia Accords?

Thunderbolt Ross doesn’t show up until Tony’s funeral, but there is no mention of the Accords anywhere in the film, and we never learned whether or not he survived the snap. It’s implied that the Accords were done away with after the Decimation because of all the chaos, but an official confirmation at some point would have been nice and could be done for future films.

Why Do Clint’s Children Seem a Lot Older Than They Should Be?

Only three years have passed since Age of Ultron, yet Clint’s children appear to be much older than they should be, especially his daughter since the actress was replaced.

Did Scott Go Through a Time Vortex?

In the mid-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp, Janet van Dyne told Scott to not go through a time vortex and was set up as an important line leading to Endgame. However, while there is no evidence that Scott entered one and that he merely stayed in place for five hours until he was pulled out, it’s possible that these have something to do with the whole “time works differently in Quantum Realm” rules. For instance, how come Janet aged normally while she was down there? Hopefully, we’ll get to learn what exactly how time works in the Quantum Realm soon.

What Happened to Ghost Without Those Quantum Healing Particles?

Scott Lang went into the Quantum Realm specifically to get healing particles to help Ghost fully heal, but what happened to the sample he collected, as well as Ghost herself? Was she dusted, so it wouldn’t make a difference? Or has she been suffering a little bit more these past five years?

What Happened in Budapest?

After having a second comment in Endgame about a mission that happened in Budapest, now I really want to know just what went down there. This would be perfect material to show in the Black Widow movie or a Marvel One-Shot if Kevin Feige ever changes his mind and brings those back.

What’s Going on Between Bruce and Natasha?

Avengers: Age of Ultron teased a romantic relationship between Banner and Romanoff, but it never really affected any subsequent films. They have an awkward reunion in Infinity War, but that’s about it. What exactly was their status on their feelings for each other by the time that Natasha sacrificed herself?

Will Loki Ever Return to the Prime Timeline?

Thanks to the time heist, there is now a timeline in which Loki escaped capture in New York using the Tesseract/Space Stone. Will the new Loki Disney+ series take place in this timeline? Or will Loki somehow return to the prime timeline?

Does This Count as Robert Redford’s Actual Last Film?

Last year, it was announced that The Old Man & the Gun would be Redford’s last acting gig, but unless that was the last one that he filmed, his supposed last film appearance according to IMDb is actually his cameo in Endgame, unless he doesn’t count that.

What Happened to Black Widow’s Body?

Is she left on Vormir indefinitely or is there any way to bring her body back to Earth? If the former is the case, would Thanos and Gamora find a skeleton at the bottom of the cliff or would the Red Skull (or even Steve upon his return) have buried her?

Will We Ever See Any Alternate Timelines and What Are the Ramifications of Their Existence?

The time heist and Steve Roger’s actions created at least three alternate timelines, some of which create some intriguing possibilities. Will we ever get to see any of them, either on the big screen or on Disney+?

Will We Ever Get More Marvel One-Shots?

Endgame set up some of the announced Disney+ series, but will the Marvel One-Shots ever come back? Kevin Feige says they won’t, but multiple timelines do create the perfect opportunity to expand on these “what if” situations that are now real in short and simple ways, should he change his mind down the road.

Who Has Been Ruling Wakanda During the Past Five Years?

It’s never confirmed within the film whether or not T’Challa’s mother, Ramonda, survived the snap or not. If she had or hadn’t, who has been ruling Wakanda in the last five years since both T’Challa and Shuri were decimated. Hopefully, we’ll find out in Black Panther 2.

Will Vision Come Back? And When Does the WandaVision Series Take Place?

While the snapped victims were returned, this did not include the return of Wanda’s lover, Vision, so is he really gone for good? Could Shuri find a way to rebuild him without the Mind Stone? If not, then when does their upcoming limit series take place?

Can Scarlet Witch/the Mind Stone Predict the Future?

Almost all of the visions induced by Wanda in Age of Ultron come true: Thor experiences the loss of Asgard and his loved ones, Tony watched the Avengers lose to aliens and survive (and counteract this “worst part” by sacrificing himself to save the universe), and Steve having his dance with Peggy, which is what he really wanted all along. Because these so accurately predicted the future, just how powerful are the Mind Stone and Wanda’s powers?

Where is Gamora?

Time travel has kept a version of Gamora alive, except without her memories of being part of the Guardians. But where did she go after the battle? Was she dusted with Thanos’s army? Did she somehow escape off Earth or is she still there? And for good measure, to quote Drax, why is Gamora?

Will Quill Ever Return to Earth Again?

I don’t think enough people have recognized that Endgame is the first time that Peter Quill returned to Earth after his mother’s death, which is very significant and something I’ve been looking forward to for a while. While it was brief, what did he think of his homeworld after his time there? And will he ever return?

Will Thor Get Back Into Shape and How Long Will He Stay With the Guardians?

Now that the universe has been set right and Thor is now on a new path, will he get back into shape, especially since he’ll be around the jealous Peter Quill? And will he be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, or will he go off on his own to be in a Thor 4?

How Will the Dusted Heroes Deal With Their Five-Year Loss?

Losing five years of one’s life would be traumatic, especially if it happened to half the universe. This makes Thanos’s initial victory somewhat lasting and leaves the world of the MCU in a place ripe for rich storytelling. It’s very similar to the premise of the TV show Manifest, just on a much larger scale. Hopefully, we’ll see the reactions in future films from both the heroes and some of the common folk.

Who Will Ultimately Have It Better Overall, the Initial Survivors Or Everyone Who Was Dusted?

When Infinity War came out, it was clear that being snapped out of existence would be the worst possible outcome, but now that Endgame is released and we all see the big picture, who has it better in the end - the ones who lost five years and have to adjust to a new world, or the ones who survived, dealt with the traumatic loss, only to have to readjust once everyone came back?

What Were the Ramifications of the Multiple Snaps?

The trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home indicates that “the snap” has created the multiverse, though it never specifies which snap that was, considering there were four total. But what other possible ramifications have occurred from the energy released during those snaps?

What About That Inevitable Interaction Between Captain America and the Red Skull?

Will we ever get to see Captain America coming face-to-face with the Red Skull on Vormir? This is ripe material for a Marvel One-Shot.

Where Is the Red Skull Now?

Now that the Soul Stone is gone from Vormir in the prime timeline, is the Red Skull free to go anywhere he wants? If so, where will he go, and will he return to his evil ways or simply retire either on that planet or somewhere else?

How Did Steve’s Time Travel To the Past Work and What Did He Change While He Was There?

Did he really create an alternate timeline like many (including myself) have guessed and simply found a way to return to the prime timeline? And if this is the case, what else did he change in that timeline? Did he and Peggy go off on adventures together? Did he help found S.H.I.E.LD.? Did he rescue Bucky and help stop Hydra from reforming? And how did Peggy handle the fact that he had come back to her from the future? I would have loved to see their reunion beyond the dancing.

When Did Steve Return? Before or After Agent Carter?

When exactly did he go back to be with Peggy? More specifically, was it before or after the events of the show, Agent Carter, which has now been made a lot more canon with the inclusion of Edwin Jarvis in Endgame (please bring back the show!). If he arrived after the timeframe of the show, I feel really bad for Daniel, with whom Peggy was falling in love with by the end of the second season.

Will the Name “the Avengers” Remain?

Not only who will be part of the new team, but will they keep the original name? Or will they go with some different team name from the comics? Is the Avengers HQ being destroyed symbolic of the team the “Avengers” being done after this film?

Will the Rat Become an Avenger?

Just kidding. But seriously, that rat is the true hero of the story. He/she deserves more credit.
